Bank of America analysts: 50% chance we live in a matrix… literally

In a recent report, analysts at BofA Merril Lynch told their clients that there is a 20-50 percent chance we’re all living in a virtual reality simulation ala The Matrix films.

Those figures seem kind of low in my humble opinion. But hey, it gets better:

“It is conceivable that with advancements in artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and computing power, members of future civilizations could have decided to run a simulation of their ancestors,” the report stated.

So we’re just a simulation being projected by our ancestors? Guess that beats living in those egg sacs as human batteries being fed off of by robots until we die and are liquefied and fed to the living like in the Matrix films. Still, wouldn’t that make this one big giant science experiment with all of us as unwitting participants?

Ah, reality finally starts to make more sense…

But also, what the hell is a bank saying stuff like that to their clients for anyway? Consider what your conception of a bank is. I guess they deal in fake money on manipulated stock markets, so that makes them experts on what is and isn’t real?

They went on to say that even if our reality was a simulation, we’d never really know it, but I beg to differ. I feel like we’ve been living in the Matrix for a long time now, with more and more confirmations every day. Turn on the TV and practically everything you see looks like a cartoon these days. The television shows and movies seem more real than the daily news.

As augmented reality games like Pokémon Go continue to blur the lines between “fact” (whatever that means anymore) and “fiction” (same), eventually there will be less and less of a tangible difference. Once virtual reality becomes standard and widespread, with companies already attempting to make it as cheap as possible now to get more and more people on board, it’ll be a Matrix inside a Matrix (or a dream inside a dream, an Inception of matrices, if you will) with our elite “leaders” casually strolling around running the show.

The majority of people will get up in a box, go to work in a box, come home to their box, stare at a box (computer, smartphone) or watch a box (TV) and then jack into another box (VR).

But hey, at least it’ll look cool… right?
